- When `manual_wal_flush_one_in > 0`, we also need tracing to correctly verify recovery because WAL data can be lost in this case when `FlushWAL()` is not explicitly called by users of RocksDB (in our case, db stress) and the recovery from such potential WAL data loss is a prefix recovery that requires tracing to verify. As another consequence, we need to disable features can't run under unsync data loss with `manual_wal_flush_one_in`

- It turns out that `Writer::AddCompressionTypeRecord` before this assertion `EmitPhysicalRecord(kSetCompressionType, encode.data(), encode.size());` but do not trigger flush if `manual_wal_flush` is set . This leads to `impl->TEST_WALBufferIsEmpty()' is false.
- As suggested, assertion is removed and violation case is handled by `FlushWAL(sync=true)` along with refactoring `TEST_WALBufferIsEmpty()` to be `WALBufferIsEmpty()` since it is used in prod code now.

Summary:
In PR https://github.com/facebook/rocksdb/issues/7523 , checksum handoff is introduced in RocksDB for WAL, Manifest, and SST files. When user enable checksum handoff for a certain type of file, before the data is written to the lower layer storage system, we calculate the checksum (crc32c) of each piece of data and pass the checksum down with the data, such that data verification can be down by the lower layer storage system if it has the capability. However, it cannot cover the whole lifetime of the data in the memory and also it potentially introduces extra checksum calculation overhead.
In this PR, we introduce a new interface in WritableFileWriter::Append, which allows the caller be able to pass the data and the checksum (crc32c) together. In this way, WritableFileWriter can directly use the pass-in checksum (crc32c) to generate the checksum of data being passed down to the storage system. It saves the calculation overhead and achieves higher protection coverage. When a new checksum is added with the data, we use Crc32cCombine https://github.com/facebook/rocksdb/issues/8305 to combine the existing checksum and the new checksum. To avoid the segmenting of data by rate-limiter before it is stored, rate-limiter is called enough times to accumulate enough credits for a certain write. This design only support Manifest and WAL which use log_writer in the current stage.

Summary:
https://github.com/facebook/rocksdb/issues/5411 refactored `VersionSet::Recover` but introduced a bug, explained as follows.
Before, once a checksum mismatch happens, `reporter` will set `s` to be non-ok. Therefore, Recover will stop processing the MANIFEST any further.

The bug is that, the local variable `s` in `ReadAndRecover` won't be updated by `reporter` while reading the MANIFEST. It is possible that the reader sees a checksum mismatch in a record, but `ReadRecord` retries internally read and finds the next valid record. The mismatched record will be ignored and no error is reported.

Summary:
In the current code base, we use Status to get and store the returned status from the call. Specifically, for IO related functions, the current Status cannot reflect the IO Error details such as error scope, error retryable attribute, and others. With the implementation of https://github.com/facebook/rocksdb/issues/5761, we have the new Wrapper for IO, which returns IOStatus instead of Status. However, the IOStatus is purged at the lower level of write path and transferred to Status.
The first job of this PR is to pass the IOStatus to the write path (flush, WAL write, and Compaction). The second job is to identify the Retryable IO Error as HardError, and set the bg_error_ as HardError. In this case, the DB Instance becomes read only. User is informed of the Status and need to take actions to deal with it (e.g., call db->Resume()).

Right now, in log writer, we call flush after writing each physical record. I don't see the necessarity of it. Right now, the underlying writer has a buffer, so there isn't a concern that the write request is too large either. On the other hand, in an Env where every flush is expensive, the current approach is significantly slower than only flushing after a whole record finishes, when the record is very large.

Summary:
Currently one thread in RocksDB keeps a WAL file open while another thread
deletes it. Although the first thread never writes to the WAL again, it still
tries to close it in the end. This is fine on POSIX, but can be problematic on
other platforms, e.g. HDFS, etc.. It will either cause a lot of warning messages or
throw exceptions. The solution is to let the second thread close the WAL before deleting it.
RocksDB keeps the writers of the logs to delete in `logs_to_free_`, which is passed to `job_context` during `FindObsoleteFiles` (holding mutex). Then in `PurgeObsoleteFiles` (without mutex), these writers should close the logs.

In attempting to build a static lib for use in iOS, I ran in to lots of type errors between uint64_t and size_t. This PR contains the changes I made to get `TARGET_OS=IOS make static_lib` to succeed while also getting Xcode to build successfully with the resulting `librocksdb.a` library imported.
This also compiles for me on macOS and tests fine, but I'm really not sure if I made the correct decisions about where to `static_cast` and where to change types.
Also up for discussion: is iOS worth supporting? Getting the static lib is just part one, we aren't providing any bridging headers or wrappers like the ObjectiveRocks project, it won't be a great experience.

Summary:
Throughput: 46k tps in our sysbench settings (filling the details later)
The idea is to have the simplest change that gives us a reasonable boost
in 2PC throughput.
Major design changes:
1. The WAL file internal buffer is not flushed after each write. Instead
it is flushed before critical operations (WAL copy via fs) or when
FlushWAL is called by MySQL. Flushing the WAL buffer is also protected
via mutex_.
2. Use two sequence numbers: last seq, and last seq for write. Last seq
is the last visible sequence number for reads. Last seq for write is the
next sequence number that should be used to write to WAL/memtable. This
allows to have a memtable write be in parallel to WAL writes.
3. BatchGroup is not used for writes. This means that we can have
parallel writers which changes a major assumption in the code base. To
accommodate for that i) allow only 1 WriteImpl that intends to write to
memtable via mem_mutex_--which is fine since in 2PC almost all of the memtable writes
come via group commit phase which is serial anyway, ii) make all the
parts in the code base that assumed to be the only writer (via
EnterUnbatched) to also acquire mem_mutex_, iii) stat updates are
protected via a stat_mutex_.
Note: the first commit has the approach figured out but is not clean.
Submitting the PR anyway to get the early feedback on the approach. If
we are ok with the approach I will go ahead with this updates:
0) Rebase with Yi's pipelining changes
1) Currently batching is disabled by default to make sure that it will be
consistent with all unit tests. Will make this optional via a config.
2) A couple of unit tests are disabled. They need to be updated with the
serial commit of 2PC taken into account.
3) Replacing BatchGroup with mem_mutex_ got a bit ugly as it requires
releasing mutex_ beforehand (the same way EnterUnbatched does). This
needs to be cleaned up.

Introduce new tags for records that have a log_number. This changes the
header size from 7 to 11 for these records, making this a
backward-incompatible change.
If we read a record that belongs to a different log_number (i.e., a
previous instantiation of this log file, before it was most recently
recycled), we return kOldRecord from ReadPhysicalRecord. ReadRecord
will translate this into a kEof or kBadRecord depending on what the
WAL recovery mode is.
We make several adjustments to the log_test.cc tests to compensate for the
fact that the header size varies between the two modes.

When we recycle log files, we need to mix the log number into the CRC
for each record. Note that for logs that don't get recycled (like the
manifest), we always pass a log_number of 0 and false.

Summary: We want to keep Env a think layer for better portability. Less platform dependent codes should be moved out of Env. In this patch, I create a wrapper of file readers and writers, and put rate limiting, write buffering, as well as most perf context instrumentation and random kill out of Env. It will make it easier to maintain multiple Env in the future.

Otherwise, we would assert that an unsigned expression is always >= 0.
The intent was to form a possibly negative number, and to assert that
that value is always >= 0, but since one variable in the computation
was unsigned, the result was guaranteed to be unsigned, too, rendering
the assertion useless.
Cast that unsigned variable to "int", so that all operands
are signed, and thus so that the result can be negative.
Test Plan:
Run "make EXTRA_CXXFLAGS='-W -Wextra'" and see fewer errors.

When finding overlapping files, the covered range may expand
as files are added to the input set. We now correctly expand
the range when this happens instead of continuing to use the
old range. For example, suppose L0 contains files with the
following ranges:
F1: a .. d
F2: c .. g
F3: f .. j
and the initial compaction target is F3. We used to search
for range f..j which yielded {F2,F3}. However we now expand
the range as soon as another file is added. In this case,
when F2 is added, we expand the range to c..j and restart the
search. That picks up file F1 as well.
This change fixes a bug related to deleted keys showing up
incorrectly after a compaction as described in Issue 44.
